Dresses Fit for the Queen

Today, I made my way back to Kensington Palace. I took the long way around, walking through Hyde Park to stop and smell the flowers and feed the swans.

The last time I was at Kensington Palace I didn’t go inside, so I was excited to roam the same halls as Britain’s royal family.

Fun fact: Did you know Prince William and Princess Kate lived at Kensington up until George was born? Kensington Palace is seen as the starter home for many of Britain’s royal members.

I explored all the areas of the palace before I made my way to the royal dress exhibit. I saw portions of the palace including the queen’s bedchamber and the king’s grand staircase.

My last stop at Kensington was the Fashion Rules exhibit. Each of the mannequins was custom made from a clear plastic then cut away to make the dresses appear as if they were floating. It was breathtaking to see the detail of these dresses up close. The exhibit was filled with picture slides of Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth. Original drawings by the designers hung on the walls. It was so cool to see the creativity that went into producing these incredible dresses – these dresses really were fit for a queen.

My name is Sam Geer. I’m from Murrysville, Pennsylvania, and I’m a junior at Saint Vincent. I’m getting my major in Environmental Science and minoring in Public Administration. I’m a work study at the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve and am a member of the Benedictine Leadership Studies Program. Anastasia Jaeger is a junior English education major with a minor in German and a minor in peace and justice. She has always dreamed of being able to travel around the world and is thankful that Saint Vincent College has these opportunities available to students. When she is not at college, she is likely working her part-time job at a local bakery. In the future, she hopes to travel more and do humanitarian work or teach high school students English.
