The Journey to Bhutan: Patience is a Virtue

Hi! I’m Sam, an environmental science major, and for six weeks this summer I’ll be learning in the remote Himalayan nation of Bhutan. Home to sweeping mountain landscapes and a proud people with a traditional culture, Bhutan is a place that very few get to venture to in their lifetime. When I applied for this program last year, I remembered how grateful I was to be a part of an adventure so rare.

Making My Dream a Reality: Traveling to Rome

Posted by Anastasia Jaeger on Wed, May 18, 2016 @ 04:00 PM

It is hard for me to believe that a dream I've had since I was so young is finally becoming a reality. All of my close friends and family know that I have always wanted to travel. I am beyond blessed that Saint Vincent offers trips to other countries and has so many excellent study abroad opportunities. I have never been out of the country before but that is soon about to change.

Reflecting on Italy: Some of the Best Days of My Life

Posted by Emily Samara on Sat, May 07, 2016 @ 10:00 AM

As I enter into my final week in Rome, I am overwhelmed with joy. These almost four months have been some of the best days of my life. Not only did I find my new home in Italy, I learned to live on my own, I can say some words in another language, I found THE best gelato place ever, I have seen so much history and I have made some incredible friendships. I was so blessed to be able to share this experience with the people closest to me and show them a place that I now call home. I made my way not only around Rome but to Venice, Milan, Assisi, Florence, Tuscany, Turi, Positano, Sorrento, Capri, Naples, Pompeii, Sicily, London and even Stockholm. And I met family I didn’t even know existed!

Understanding Belfast

Posted by Gina McKlveen on Sat, Apr 30, 2016 @ 10:00 AM

This weekend CIEE took us to Belfast in Northern Ireland. Our program director studied the conflicts in Belfast and shared as much information with us as he could before we left, but I still wasn’t prepared for the things I saw in Belfast. Just to give you some background, Belfast is an area in Northern Ireland that has been subjected to a lot of religious contention during the Irish conflicts. Roman Catholic and Protestant communities are separated to this day by peace walls, which are 40 meters high and strung with barbed wire. I was told about these things before I left, but seeing them in person was completely different.
